Developers, it’s time to…
On the heels of our release of the OUYA ODK and Dev Consoles, we’re honored to announce CREATE, the first ever OUYA game jam. Presented by Kill Screen, CREATE is a fast-paced 10-day competition in which developers worldwide can get inventive, and make playable prototype games. We have some phenomenal judges, and even a real prize pool.
If you’re a game developer, you’re qualified to compete in CREATE for $45,000 in prizes contributed by some wonderful OUYA supporters. You don’t even need an OUYA. Just start coding.
It works like this:
- Create a *new* game for OUYA – any style, any genre as long as it’s playable (and, of course, fun).
- Submit your playable OUYA game prototype between January 14 and 23 to Kill Screen for review.
- Show off a video of your demo on YouTube, tweet it up on Twitter, gather your fans on Facebook to gain gamer support and awareness of your OUYA game. Social media support will be one of the criteria used to select finalists.
When entries close on January 23, your game will be reviewed by the good people at Kill Screen, and then a handpicked team of industry pros including Phil Fish of Fez; Canabalt’s Adam Saltsman; Zach Gage, maker of SpellTower; Ed Fries, co-creator of Xbox and OUYA advisor; Felicia Day of The Guild, and more!
This is your opportunity to make that dream game into an OUYA reality. For more information on rules, prizes and all the fine print, click here.
So what are you waiting for? Get CREATE-ing!

I just have a question for the Ouya team. Ouya has the Tegra 3 chip but with the recent announcement of the Tegra 4 chip, are you considering modifying Ouya to support the Tegra 4?

Tegra 4 was just recently announced at CES.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
You know, the Tegra4 will be released in Fall?
*I* can’t wait that long :)
The Ouya will probably get an update once in a year.
The Nvidia Project Shield is due for launch Q2 of 2013. The Shield has a Tegra 4. One of the reason I think that we want the Ouya to go to Tegra 4 would be because Hawken has been announced to work on the Shield with the Tegra 4. The Tegra 4 basically being a requirement due to the 4x increase in graphics power over the Tegra 3.
I hope so! Ouya would be perfect to show off the new Tegra 4. But not sure how ready it is as it’s only just been announced..
Don’t you mean Felicia Day from The Guild?
@Blake if anything, Tegra 4 should be in the 3d version there gonna do?
are you guys doing a 3D OUYA version?
I will enter this contest :D
Blake, OUYA is being released in a number of months, do you really think that is a feasible idea? …if you’re looking for the sane answer, the answer is no, that is not a feasible idea. If they put the Tegra 4 into the OUYA you probably wouldn’t be able to get the device for as cheap as $99. Besides, since the OUYA is a console with a cooling fan, they are free to clock the chip higher than you could if the tegra was in a phone.
Do I need to have pre-ordered ouya to enter the contest?
Quick question, so the 14 through the 23 is simply the submission period? I can start creating a game now and if I was happy with the quality, submit it on the 14th? Or do we need to start on the 14th?
@1
It’s January and the Tegra 4 has just been announced, as in “it’s coming out at some point soon-ish.” The Ouya special dev units are already out (with a Tegra 3) and the consumer console should be out in March.
Less than three months to totally change the architecture and in the process make every dev unit obsolete? I can pretty much guarantee you that is not going to happen. Not that I’d complain if it did (me not having a dev unit and all), but no.
Oh please give a little bit more time, at least to the end of a month. Moving from an idea to working prototype with appealing result in one week is hard..
To submit a game for the evaluation, it is necessary to develop it with the ODK system, or we can submit our games developed with other systems? The Unity 3d as an example?
Does the prototype have to be able to run on the Ouya, or can it just run on computer?
I was considering buy one but with the Tegra4 being announced it depends if the Ouya ships with it and if not I will not buy.
Terga 4 cost the same as Terga 3 and yes nvidia said so their self, Guess now I wait for a “nexus 7 2″ instead and use a joypad on that and portable it becomes with better games.
Terga 4 is well worth it, I can wait until may easy.

I love the concept of this machine, but I am worried that by the time you end up actually releasing it, you will end up with a console in relation to other smartphones on the market. I would seriously consider making these machines modular so that people can upgrade their own hardware.
pardon me, a console that is weaker than the smartphones on the market.
In collaboration with Indie Game Developers of Silicon Valley, let’s meetup and show off the sweet new OUYA games we made for OUYA Create.
Show up even if you didn’t participate in the jam to play the games and hang out!
Location: Lanica Office (Appcelerator Building) Thurs Jan. 24 http://a.devb.us/10Nl1Ba
Can you guys postpone Ouya release? I’m willing to pay a bit more for a Tegra 4 inside. It’s just a waste of money for me, when I can use that money to pay a good part of a Tegra 4 device.
Wont be buying if this doesnt ship with a Tegra 4 unfortunately. I will however wait until the second gen which will ship with it.
i could wait for a tegra 4
the longer we wait the better the console will be
